THE WICKER MAN OXFORD – SCULPTURE PROJECT 2010

THE WICKER MAN OXFORD – SCULPTURE PROJECT 2010

The Wicker Man, Oxford is a fantastic project conceived and implemented by Janette and Dan Barton with support from Alan Hambridge. The project is designed to raise money for good causes and ROSY was lucky enough to be the chosen charity for 2010.

The Project started in early 2010 with school children being asked to design the Wicker Man. The eventual winner was presented with his prize by Robert Hardy, the actor, who is Chairman of the friends of ROSY. The winner’s school also received a small cash prize.

Dan then set about building the Wicker Man, which stood some 20feet high and was carried around the County on a flat bed lorry. The Wicker man concealed a metal framed statute which was to be revealed when the Wicker Man was burnt at the Rotary Club of Oxford’s famous firework display at South Park in Oxford.

The Wicker Man was a fantastic piece of work and impressed everyone who saw it. A series of competitions, i.e., guess what is under the Wicker Man, and the sale of merchandise meant that many thousands of pounds were raised for ROSY.

Thank you Janette, Dan and Alan. Your support is greatly appreciated by all at ROSY. Your dedication and commitment to the project had to be seen to be believed. We know you intend to repeat the project this year and your long term vision is that the Wicker Man becomes a part of the Oxford scene. We all wish you well for you deserve that.
