Rambling ROSY 2011
Rambling ROSY 2011
Two options:
1/ The full monty - 33 miles round Oxford – a day’s walk you’ll remember for ever!
2/ The semi-circle – 18 miles from the Thames at Wolvercote to the Thames at Sandford Lock
Both walks starting from the car park at the north end of Port Meadow (Wolvercote) at 06.30am
What is it?
A day’s walking in the spring. Two different length walks along the same route around Oxford. We start at the car park by the Thames in Wolvercote at the top of Port Meadow and walk clockwise round Oxford. We meet at 06.15, and set off at 06.30. If you want to do 18 miles, that’ll get you back to the Thames, at Sandford Lock (at around lunch-time) having walked all the villages on the eastern side of Oxford.
If you want to do the full 33 miles all the way around Oxford then you go on from Sandford Lock, up Boars Hill, across to Cumnor and round Farmoor Reservoir before a weary return to Wolvercote at c. 7pm-8pm. (There is a short cut possible on this route which will get you around Oxford in 28 miles – back through Botley and up the Thames footpath)
How long does it take?

Making payments:
Set up a page at Just Giving for you or your team (very easy to do) and then get all your sponsors to support you through that page, or use the Round Oxford Walk page at Just Giving http://www.justgiving.com/ramblingrosyaroundoxford
Remember to tick the Gift Aid option if you can. This can bring ROSY an additional 28% on top of your payment.
Why?
It’s a fabulous walk, through some beautiful villages and wonderful country. Over the hills surrounding Oxford, along the Thames footpath, all the while setting this great city in its natural context. Plus it’s a challenge. Don’t underestimate how tough it is to complete the full 33 miles. You will need to be fit and well equipped. Finally, its for an important local cause – raising much needed funds for the charity Respite Nursing for Oxfordshire’s Sick Youngsters. In 2008 and 2009 we raised enough to pay for about 10% of the charity’s full annual budget.
